Marc A. Barnes, Ph.D.

Marc Anthony Barnes has served as Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Dillard University since February 2013. This is not his first stint with the university, having worked in Dillard’s Development Department in various positions from 2000-2009. Before his return to Dillard, Dr. Barnesserved as Director of Development at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation, Inc. (NOJHFF). At NOJHFF, he was responsible for the development of a major gifts fundraising operation and the launch of a major capital campaign designed to support the renovation of the Jazz & Heritage Center. In his current role, he is responsible for all of the university’s fundraising efforts, government grants & contracts, alumni relations, marketing & communications, and community outreach. His divisions were responsible for over $10 million in revenue annually.

Dr. Barnes earned a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing at Xavier University of Louisiana, an M.A. in Philanthropy & Development at LaGrange College, and a Ph.D. in Urban Higher Education Administration at Jackson State University. He received the Fr. Charles Hall Award (Alumnus of the Year) at St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, LA in 2014 and was recognized by the Association of FundraisingProfessionals-Greater New Orleans Chapter as their “OutstandingProfessional Fundraiser” in November 2015. In 2017, he was recognized nationally as a top HBCU leader by HBCU Grow. He has a passion for uplifting children and he serves on a number of boards and committees, including the Association of Fundraising Professionals–Greater New Orleans ChapterBoard of Directors, for which he is a past president, the St. Augustine High School Board of Directors, and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Commission on Philanthropy. He also co-chairs the CASE Advanced Development Strategies Conference and serves on the faculty for the CASE Conference on Leadership Development. He and his wife, Dr. Kiki Baker Barnes, have two children, Caitlin and Marc, Jr.
